Work Text:

Cordy wrestled with the wrapper on her Butterfinger for five whole minutes. Angel knew it was five minutes, because he’d been watching…. and checking the lobby clock.

A small smirk had crept across his face at the cute little growls that escaped from cherry red lips. The noises were getting louder and more frustrated and after the sixth minute, Angel readied himself

Deftly he grabbed it out of the air as it came sailing towards him and the smirk became a full-blown grin at her “heyy! No Fair!”

Cordelia glared at the smirking vampire. The satisfaction of hearing the candy thwack against the wall had been denied her because the big fat showoff just had to step in and spoil it.

“Give it back,” she almost growled at him. The growl becoming a snarl at the instant shake of his dark head. Without even realizing it she rose from her chair and began stalking towards him across the lobby.

Angel, watching her approach, instantly rose to his feet and held the candy bar high out of reach.

“Finders keepers,” he taunted softly, loving the instant fiery flare of color that flooded her cheeks.

“You are going down, buddy,” her voice just as low but with a thread of menace that sent a delicious shiver down his spine.

“Aww, don’t be sore, Cordeeelia.” He mocked, stepping back and grinning widely as she kept pace until his back hit the far wall of the lobby. “It’s just a little ‘ole Candy bar.”

Then she sprang towards him like a vengeful feline, all grace and deadly claws. Then delicious heat consumed him as her body stretched up and pressed against the full length of his and the grin sharpened.

This was why he watched every time she attempted to open a Butterfinger. It always ended up being thrown across the lobby in a fit of temper. He always caught it- and she always ended up pinning him against the wall in a way that brought every dead cell in his body flaring into life.

Eyes now the color of topaz locked onto the elusive candy bar; fingers clutching tightly onto his shirt and her other arm stretched high, fingers curling around his thick wrist in an attempt to pull his arm down. Each time she attempted this it always ended up the same. His arm stayed put and Cordy ended up on her tippy-toes, her weight fully supported by him.

And she loved it.

Better than the other kind of tiptoeing. Around repressed feelings both didn’t dare express- and she often wondered how long it would take Angel to realize it was all a con.

Then she caught his intent gaze and read the knowledge in his darkened eyes.  And OhMyGod her lips were millimeters away from his, and if their game didn’t end soon she would be in big trouble.

With a huff she dropped her heels back to the floor and slowly stepped away. “You can have the stupid thing,” she retorted loftily as she straightened her skirt with slightly trembling fingers. “It’s all squished now, anyway.” With one last cursory glance towards the candy bar clutched in Angel’s hand, she turned on her heel and stomped off.

Angel lowered his hand, relaxing his taut muscles by degrees as he watched the hypnotic sway of softly flaring hips, and the flash of golden thighs as the box pleat running down the back of her skirt played peek-a-boo with his libido.

The game had gradually escalated… Lips almost touching this time. He heaved a depressed sigh as he pushed away from the wall, opening the candy bar deftly as he made his way to her desk.

Her eyes intent on a file and a hand propping her chin gave the casual observer the impression of boredom… unless you happened to be a vampire. Subtle signs of toned muscles delicately tensing when he was level with the side of her desk.

They relaxed infinitesimally as he passed by, only pausing to place the opened candy bar next to the elbow resting on the desktop.

Cordy eyed the back of his head longingly as he continued on towards his office and gave a depressed sigh of her own. Lips almost touching. God! So, so close. Absently she picked up the candy bar and took a bite, the taste drawing her faraway gaze. A frown creased her brow as she took another bite.

Maybe it was time to swap the Butterfingers for something obviously easier to open, she thought, her lips turning down at the corners. The game had reached a point of almost no return, and neither could risk that.

Swallowing the last of the chocolate, Cordy wondered if the pack of Oreos in her desk drawer would rid the bitter taste that now tainted her mouth….
