A change of clothes was folded in a neat pile on the already made bed. Their clothes from last night were gone from the floor. Hung up, no doubt. Angel was such a neat freak. Cordelia quickly got dressed and headed for the baby talk in the next room.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordelia leaned against the doorframe. There was something truly sexy about a man playing with a baby. Cordelia shook her head; as much as she wished she could stay in the suite forever with Angel and Connor, she figured it was time to deal with everything else that happened the night before. \u201cDid you and Spike have a nice chat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel shrugged. \u201cHe loves Buffy, she\u2026I don\u2019t know. He thinks not. It seems that she\u2019s been going through a real hard time since she came back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWhat did he want you to do about it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cGo to her, help her, love her, I guess.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYou aren\u2019t going.\u201d 24 hours ago, Cordelia\u2019s words would have come out as a panicked question, now it was just an order.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel raised his eyes from his son. \u201cI told him that. Cordy, I know who I love, where my life is and isn\u2019t in Sunnydale, okay.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cOkay.\u201d Cordelia came to sit beside the vampire. \u201cSo, he\u2019s leaving then.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNo, I asked him to stay until Dracula is definitely dust or gone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYou think that Dracula will go all vampy with the revenge?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI know he will.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIs Connor in danger? Would he go after him?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cEveryone is in danger, but he\u2019ll concentrate on getting you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cMe?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel nodded. \u201cHe\u2019ll want to take away Angelus\u2019 property.\u201d Looking away from Cordelia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordelia scrunched up her face. \u201cI thought you said that the vampires would respect these.\u201d Touching the mark still apparent on her neck.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel sighed. \u201cAny respect Dracula gave my mark, I imagine disappeared when we ruined his party. I\u2019m sure he\u2019ll feel no qualms on breaking his own rules.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAnd Spike is going to help us?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel nodded. \u201cCordy, about these.\u201d His thumb caressed the small marks. \u201cI\u2019m sorry\u2026. but they will go away, I didn\u2019t make them permanent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cDoes that mean when they go away, I\u2019ll no longer be your love slave?\u201d Angel was confused by the humor in her tone. \u201cCuz, you know I kind of liked it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cCordy\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSometimes, you are such a dork. Angel, it was my idea, it didn\u2019t hurt, and I\u2019m fine. How about you? He advertises. I knew he had no class, but this\u201d The Count waved the paper around. \u201cIt\u2019s just plain offensive. Angelus is a tradesman. Get this out of my sight.\u201d Mortimor quickly took the handbill back.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cHis property?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe young woman works with him and the other humans. Master, I do not believe that she is in actual fact the property of Angelus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cHe marked her, a weak mark, but it was Angelus\u2019 mark.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cMaybe, but the information I received indicated that she isn\u2019t his slave or concubine, Cordelia Chase works with him, but does not live with him, she in fact as her own apartment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The vampire leaned back into the overstuffed armchair. Not Angelus\u2019 property. Had the evidence of the mark on the beautiful young woman been merely a ruse? Had the soul so corrupted Angelus\u2019 vampire instincts that he could mark such delectable flesh and not possess it?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dracula sat up. No matter. The beautiful human had been intriguing; her repulsion to the Count\u2019s presence had challenged him. And Dracula had sensed a bond between the two of them, she may not be Angelus\u2019 property but she was something to him. Dracula\u2019s fingers tapped repeatedly on the arm of the chair. This revenge could even be sweeter than he hoped. He was definitely not bored.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cMortimor, tell me you have her address.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The distinguished Englishman bowed and handed the Count another piece of paper.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Chapter 20<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIt\u2019s about time, Peaches. These idiots won\u2019t even tell me where to get a decent spot of blood. Hey, is that little squirt?\u201d Spike jumped off the counter heading for the baby in Angel\u2019s arms.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Spike stopped at Angel\u2019s growl. \u201cJust want to look, never saw a vampire baby before- hey it\u2019s human.\u201d Spike stepped back. \u201cPeaches, you sure and hell got yourself involved in a daft prophecy. A vampire with a soul with a human kid, what is the world coming to? Is it ending again?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cShut up,\u201d Cordelia glared. She had told herself that she would try to be nice to the blonde vampire after all he was was helping them and obviously Buffy broke his un-dead heart. But it was hard with that mouth of his.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWhat?\u201d Spike turned to Cordelia. \u201cGeez, chit could you smell any more like Peaches. What? Were you two shagging on the way down? And in front of the squirt, naughty, naughty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSpike,\u201d Angel growled, ignoring Gunn and Fred\u2019s gasps and Wesley\u2019s hard stare.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cJerk.\u201d Cordelia stormed into the kitchen, her face flaming red.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cHey, the shower thing only works if you do it alone.\u201d Spike called after the young woman.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cFred, please take Connor.\u201d Angel said quietly. The young woman closed her jaw and ran up to take the small bundle. In an instant Angel had the back of Spike\u2019s neck in his firm grip.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAngel,\u201d Wesley pushed at his glasses.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWes, my soul is permanent, okay?\u2019\u201d Angel called over his shoulder as he shoved Spike into Wesley\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Wesley blinked at the information, then coughed once. \u201cWell, that\u2019s interesting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAngel and Cordelia.\u201d Fred smiled widely up from the baby in her arms.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIs this a good thing?\u201d Gunn finally spoke.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cOf course it is Charles.\u201d Fred said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWes.\u201d Gunn turned away from the goofy romantic grin on the young woman\u2019s face.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAngel\u2019s soul is permanent, so no danger of a return of Angelus and Angel has been obvious in his feeling for Cordelia for some time now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Wesley looked at Fred before putting his glasses back on. \u201cThey found love, which is a very good thing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">***<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cLet me go, you poof.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSpike, I warned you no upsetting Cordelia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWhat? I didn\u2019t do anything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel pushed the other vampire, letting him go. \u201cYou know you did. You embarrassed her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYou\u2019re going to kill me for embarrassing your girl. Isn\u2019t that just a tad melodramatic? You\u2019re so whipped. Hey, what about Drac, you need my help.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI know. Spike, don\u2019t be such asshole, it will get you killed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYou used to be fun.\u201d Spike took his cigarettes out of his pocket.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSpike.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe squirt is in the other room.\u201d His Zippo in hand.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel just stared, his arms crossed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cFine.\u201d Spike shoved the cigarette and lighter back in his pocket.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">***<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cUm.\u201d Cordelia came out of the kitchen, she was no longer beet red but she was uncomfortable at the glances her friends were giving her. She staggered back as Fred came up hugging her, the baby safe in his crib away from Fred\u2019s exuberance.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYou and Angel,\u201d She squeezed again. \u201cIt\u2019s Moria, told you.\u201d She shot a look at Wesley and Gunn.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cUm, Fred, you\u2019re making me spill Angel\u2019s breakfast.\u201d Cordelia tried to balance the two mugs in her hands.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSorry.\u201d Still beaming Fred released Cordelia from her happy hug.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordelia rolled her eyes. \u201cWill my sex life always be a topic of conversation?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI believe the topic is closed now.\u201d Wesley smiled softly at the young woman. Wesley was truly happy that Cordelia finally acknowledged her feelings for Angel. Wesley didn\u2019t kid himself that Cordelia and Angel\u2019s relationship would be easy, but still they were his friends and they both deserved to find happiness.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThanks, Wes.\u201d Smiling at Wesley\u2019s unspoken thoughts rather than his boss like tone.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She looked around, gesturing to Wesley\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYeah, and Angel didn\u2019t look pleased, the blond dead guy might be dust now.\u201d Gunn jerked his head towards the closed door. \u201cHaven\u2019t heard any thing break yet, though. Kinda was looking forward to seeing his blonde dead ass come flying through the window.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordelia sighed and went into the office.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cDarn. I\u2019d hoped you had staked him. Here.\u201d Cordelia held out a mug towards Angel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cCinnamon?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordelia shrugged smiling. \u201cLoving AND frustrating, I can\u2019t help it.\u201d She shoved the other mug at Spike. \u201cBreakfast.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI don\u2019t want Cinnamon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cDon\u2019t be stupid. I had thought about arsenic, though. It might not kill, but it would have to hurt. Do you want it or not. Don\u2019t be a baby. It&#8217;s just pig\u2019s blood warmed, plain and boring.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Spike took the mug. Still a little floored at how easily Cordelia accepted the vampires drinking in front of her. \u201cHow come I didn\u2019t get cinnamon?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordelia blinked. \u201cBecause, I don\u2019t love you, barely even like you. Angel, I\u2019ve got to go back to my apartment for some stuff if I\u2019m staying here while Dracula\u2019s on the loose.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cCordy, I don\u2019t\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAngel, it\u2019s daylight and I can\u2019t just stay without telling Dennis, he\u2019d be worried. Give me your keys, I\u2019ll bring your car back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel reluctantly pulled out his keys. \u201cDon\u2019t be too long, just pack some things and tell Dennis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYes, master.\u201d Sticking her tongue out at the vampire.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cHey, cheerleader.\u201d Cordelia paused from her exit and turned to Spike.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cBarely liking me, means you like me some.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordelia rolled her eyes and left.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cPeaches, Dracula is going to come after her hard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel glared then nodded his acceptance of what he already knew.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThat mind stuff is bull shit and games, but it does work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel growled then sighed. \u201cCome on, we need to figure out where he\u2019s staying.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThat can\u2019t be that difficult. How many four star hotels are they that let you bring your own coffin.\u201d Following Angel out. \u201cHey, who\u2019s Dennis and why aren\u2019t you threatening him?\u201d<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Chapter 21<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordelia pushed at the lock. Damn thing kept sticking. She pounded and turned the key, finally the apartment door opened. \u201cSome help next time, Dennis.\u201d She grumbled shoving her keys back in her pocket. \u201cDennis\u2026. What the hell?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Roses that had been floating dropped suddenly to the ground. Cordelia looked around, roses were everywhere. Some still in glass vases. Cordelia stared. There were roses by the dozen on every surface. Others were strewn on the floor leading to the kitchen. Cordelia stunned, followed the petals and stems. She stopped. The trashcan was stuffed to the brim with roses and glass. \u201cDennis, explain.\u201d Her eyes never leaving the mangled blood red flowers in the trash.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">More roses floated through the air only then to be pushed in the overstuffed trash. \u201cOkay, I can see you don\u2019t like them. How did they get here?\u201d Petals and flowers came flying out of the trash. \u201cI\u2019m getting confused here.\u201d A card floated up from the shower of petals. \u201cYou will be Mine.\u201d Reading the words of the card out loud. A cold shiver traveled up Cordelia\u2019s spine, squeezing her like a vice. \u201cWas Dracula actually here or hopefully was it just his hoity toity flunky?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A broken wooden stake as well as a crushed crossbow came flying into the kitchen. Cordelia watched the destroyed weapons crash to the ground. The vice in her chest was starting to strangle her. \u201cDennis, this is not good.\u201d Cordelia took a deep breath trying to remain calm. She took another one.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cDennis, please, pack a bag, I\u2019m\u2026.\u201d Cordelia paused as her duffle bag was immediately shoved against her. \u201cThinking ahead, I really like that about you, Dennis. How did he\u2026..\u201d She stopped again as the duffel bag left the kitchen and flew out the open front door.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYou\u2019re right, I should leave now. Expect a visit from Angel and please feel free to trash every single hideous rose. Throw them out the window, if you can\u2019t find anywhere else to shove them.\u201d With the card still clutched in her hand, Cordelia ran.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">***<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Deep breath. Deep breath. Cordelia was angry, but even more than that she was scared. Deep breath. Cordelia would not freak until she was safely back with Angel. Angel would have a rational explanation as to how the Count had entered her apartment in the middle of a bright sunny day.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">***<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cANGEL,\u201d Cordelia yelled running into the lobby. \u201cANGEL\u201d she called again, ignoring Wesley and Gunn\u2019s scramble towards her.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She looked around for the vampire. Cordelia started to yell again, when Angel tore out of the basement, Spike immediately behind, their swords still in hand.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cCordy, what happened?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYou tell me, how in the hell did Count Dracula get into my apartment. Doesn\u2019t the invitey thing work with him? The sun\u2019s out.\u201d Pointing back to the door as if it was the bright vampire-burning ball itself.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cHere. Explain it.\u201d Shoving the card into the still vampire\u2019s hand.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A deep growl resounded in Angel\u2019s throat as he read it. \u201cWhere did you get this?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWeren\u2019t you listening? My apartment. That and tons of roses, roses everywhere, stinking up the place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cCordelia, why do you think that Dracula was in your apartment? Did you see him?\u201d Wesley moved closer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cGee, Wes, as popular as I am, I don\u2019t think that pimply face geek next door spent his allowance dressing up my apartment to look like a high rent florist shop or send me \u2018Be Mine valentines\u2019. It\u2019s not even February.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cCordy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cDennis, told me.\u201d Cordelia shot back to Wesley, her eyes never leaving Angel. Angel hadn\u2019t said a word, his eyes glued to the words on the card.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cHey cheerleader, release the tightened panties, he\u2019s just trying to scare you.\u201d Spike said snatching the card from Angel\u2019s grip, ignoring his grandsire\u2019s growl.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWell, duh and guess what it worked. How dare he come into my apartment? How could he? It\u2019s daylight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel tried to beat down his rage and fear that Dracula had been in Cordelia\u2019s apartment that he could have been there when she walked in. Angel tried to think rationally and not on pure violent instinct. Dracula was powerful, but not all powerful, he still had the same limitations as other vampires. Sun, fire, stakes, crosses, holy water and a need to be invited into a human\u2019s house.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel studied Cordelia. Realization hit him like a ton of bricks. None of them had thought about it. Months had gone by of Cordelia spending nights alone in her apartment and they never even considered it. Angel hadn\u2019t. \u201cYou\u2019re part demon, now. He doesn\u2019t need to be invited in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordelia\u2019s eyes widened. \u201cYou mean, any old vampire could\u2019ve wandered in, can wander in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Wesley nodded. \u201cYes, of course. We should\u2019ve thought about that sooner. Cordelia, you will have to do a barrier spell.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordelia nodded. \u201cWhew. I knew you would have a rational explanation.\u201d Smiling in relief at Angel. She felt a lot better. Except. Cordelia scrunched up her face. \u201cHow did he know? You said you couldn\u2019t smell it on me. You, too.\u201d She swirled around to Spike. \u201cAnd how did he know where I lived? And what about the daylight thing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThere\u2019s sewer access to your apartment, Cordy, you know that. Or maybe he came before dawn, do you know when the flowers showed up?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordelia thought about it, she didn\u2019t, she just freaked and assumed. \u201cI asked Dennis, but he just threw my bag outside, I took the hint and left. I told him you would around later.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel nodded.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe other stuff. You\u2019re doing good so far.\u201d Cordelia waved her hand at Angel urging him to continue to explain away her fears.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cObviously, he found out by asking around, I guess, researching.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cResearching that I was part demony? Is that written down somewhere?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNo where you lived. As for how he knew you&#8217;re part demon, I don\u2019t know. Maybe he didn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cUm, Angel, if he didn\u2019t then he came prepared to override the whole invitey thing.
