Pleasures lasted, comfort seemed to flow, and hope was never thwarted.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">All because time didn\u2019t matter.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If there was any measurement at all, it was a measurement of small shimmers; ripples, really. Ripples that slowly danced through the space and area and made all those around aware that something had happened, and that the status quo was about to shift ever so gently.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The branches on the leafy trees in the garden danced lightly as if tossed in a delicate breeze, heralding new arrivals. Small ripples.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The woman watched, and tapped her foot impatiently. The ripples were thick today, and nudged at her contentment gently. She looked around, anticipation radiating from her soul. A hand rested on her shoulder.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She turned to smile up at the other girl.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSoon.\u201d There was promise in Anya\u2019s voice, and comfort in her touch.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI know. It just seems\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cTo take forever?\u201d Darla smiled as she joined them. \u201cBelieve me, I had an inkling of forever before I came here. This is better.\u201d Anya smiled back, and they all turned as Tara joined them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYes. This is much better. And there, in that place\u2026.you just can\u2019t know. You can\u2019t even guess. You can\u2019t possibly know how much time is wasted just\u2026.worrying. Wanting.\u201d Tara smiled shyly. \u201cI\u2019ve felt so at peace here, and so warm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIt is warm.\u201d Jenny Calender rested under the shade of a large tree, stroking a soft white cat as she looked off into the blue of the day. \u201cIt\u2019s warm and safe. And you know here what you didn\u2019t then. All the sadness, all the grief\u2026it\u2019s not about those who go on. It\u2019s about\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThose left behind.\u201d Joyce smiled as she sat nearby, looking off into the distance. \u201cYes. Those who stay and fight the fight and live those lives. They grieve for themselves. Because they can\u2019t know what this is like. What a blessing it is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cBut they do know, in time.\u201d Fred giggled at her small pun. \u201cThey know, and they wonder what they were ever worried about.\u201d She rose and walked just past the tree and looked off into the distance. Her voice dropped to an excited whisper, laced with joy. \u201cHere he comes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Over the hill appeared a figure small in the distance, gaining clarity as it grew closer. Fred slowly walked out a few steps, her face wreathed in smiles as she watched him approach. He grew closer, and they could see the gentle smile in his eyes as he saw Fred waiting for him. Just as he reached her, Wesley leaned down and gently brushed his lips across her forehead.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI wasn\u2019t frightened.\u201d His voice was low.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI know. You were calm, and brave. You faced the end of that chapter well. We\u2019ve been waiting for you. Come\u2026\u201d and she led him off to show him the beauty of the world. They held hands, walking as if they had never been separated.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cShe\u2019s been anxious.\u201d Joyce spoke nearby. \u201cShe wanted him to be comforted. And he was.\u201d Joyce turned as another figure came into sight, over the distant hill. \u201cAnother warrior.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The figure walked closer and they all smiled as Gunn walked to them, looking around with calm detachment. He grinned as he saw Fred and Wesley strolling in the distance, and looked down, letting the contentment pour through his soul. When he raised his face again, it shone with serenity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIt was the best I could be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe know, Charles. We\u2019re glad you\u2019re here.\u201d Joyce smiled and led him to the others in the group, letting the warm rays of languid contentment pour through her as she watched everyone welcome Charles Gunn to the next phase of his life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It was always such a gift to welcome those who were new; those souls almost always arrived tired and weary, and a mere glance from those already here brought rest, and care, and uplift to the most jagged of still hearts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Joyce smiled widely as she turned to face another new arrival. He didn\u2019t so much walk as strut into the garden, looking about with hushed awe on his face despite the bravado of his posture.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWilliam.\u201d Her voice was warm. \u201cYour friends are waiting for you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Spike looked around, a little confused. \u201cJoyce. You\u2019re\u2026.here\u2026..where?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Joyce calmly took his hand. \u201cI\u2019m where you have gone on to. We\u2019re\u2026well, we\u2019re in a place where hope never ends.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Spike leaned down and whispered into her ear. \u201cThink there\u2019s been a mistake. I don\u2019t think I\u2019m supposed to be here.\u201d He looked around and his eyes widened when he saw Darla strolling towards him. Her face lit with the softest of smiles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNope, you\u2019re in the right place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cBecause I\u2026.\u201d He thought a moment, feeling calmness begin to pervade his mind. \u201cBecause I got a soul?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNo.\u201d Darla\u2019s voice was gentle. \u201cBecause you used that soul well. You made that choice.\u201d Spike looked at her and smiled, raising his eyes to the bright blue of the sky.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Doyle watched him a moment, then turned to the young woman still waiting, looking off into the distance. He stared off in the same direction, and a smile grew on his face as he spotted the distant speck of a figure walking towards them. He leaned down and whispered into Cordy\u2019s ear, \u201cHere he comes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordelia stretched upon her toes and felt a shimmer of joy fill her as Angel walked closer and closer, looking around in awe.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He reached her and stopped, looking around with hesitant curiosity. He looked down at her, and she could see his eyes grow warmer\u2026.calm acceptance slowly easing over the plains of his face.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI\u2019m\u2026.I\u2019m here?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYou\u2019re here. You\u2019re here with us. You\u2019re here with me.\u201d Her hand reached down and clasped his tightly. You fought a fight no one else would, and you didn\u2019t even think\u2026\u201d she broke off as tears filled her eyes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYou didn\u2019t even think it mattered, it was just the thing to do. It was right.\u201d His hand clenched hers tightly. \u201cSo, its right you\u2019re here.\u201d She turned to face her family and smiled, holding his hand to her like a treasure. \u201cHe\u2019s here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel looked slowly around at the faces that shone at him with love and acceptance. Wesley \u2026..Charles Gunn\u2026.Fred\u2026..Spike\u2026..the group was large and each soul radiated the joy of this new life. He stood tall, and firm, and held Cordelia\u2019s hand in his grasp, and felt his soul soar and dance with the tremble of the trees.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He had gone down fighting, and was lifted to the reward of a rested soul. He would not fade away.
