{"id":5254,"date":"2015-07-14T18:16:54","date_gmt":"2015-07-14T17:16:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/goteamfiction.com\/?p=5254"},"modified":"2015-07-14T21:34:22","modified_gmt":"2015-07-14T20:34:22","slug":"wavelengths-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/goteamfiction.com\/index.php\/2015\/07\/14\/wavelengths-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Wavelengths. 4"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Part 4<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"center\"><em>Still unrecognized<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Welling from the darkest depths<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Unspoken but there<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Called by many names<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Soaring to heights unmeasured<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Bolstered by dreams<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Enlightened by pain<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Out of the gloom of despair<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Truth clouded no more<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A rush of pounding footsteps sounded outside the Hyperion just before the lobby doors opened and Charles Gunn, axe in hand, burst through quickly followed by Wesley Wyndam-Pryce and Winifred Burkle.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Though unarmed, Wesley was prepared to use those hand-to-hand skills garnered under his Watcher\u2019s Council training, or at least make a run for the weapons cabinet. Fred hadn\u2019t thought beyond getting inside to see if her friends were all right; her arms still laden with the toy prizes from the carnival.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">One by one they fell from her grip as Fred took in the sight of the empty lobby. Fear caused her words to tremble, \u201cDo ya\u2019ll think we\u2019re too late?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cANGEL! CORDY!\u201d Gunn let out a loud shout that received only an echo in return as he moved down the carpeted steps into middle of the lobby. Glancing back at Wes and Fred over his shoulder, he looked grim, but determined, \u201cI\u2019ll check out Angel\u2019s room upstairs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Gunn had a bad feeling about this. He\u2019d had it ever since that fortune-teller back at the boardwalk had warned them Connor was in danger. Taking the stairs one by one, he almost hoped he wouldn\u2019t find Angel and Cordelia up there.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Things were different between those two lately, according to Fred, and even he had to admit there were a few vibes going back and forth that weren\u2019t there in the past.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If Angel and Cordy were in that upstairs bedroom, there was a significant chance he would not like what he found whether or not that included an introduction with the vampire\u2019s evil side. As he mentally readied himself for a first-time encounter with Angelus, Gunn sent out a silent warning to his friend, <i>I\u2019d better be wrong, Bro.<\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Watching him go, Fred\u2019s mouth twisted worriedly. Suggesting to Wes, \u201cMaybe they went out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Though he wanted that to be the case, Wesley thumbed in the direction of the doors. \u201cBroad daylight and vampires don\u2019t mix. If Madame Bosha was right, there\u2019s still a chance they made an escape through the sewers. I\u2019ll head down to the basement to see if there\u2019s any sign they went that way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nodding, Fred quickly realized that left her alone. \u201cOkay,\u201d she commented to Wes\u2019 back as he disappeared around the corner. \u201cGuess I\u2019ll search for clues right here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ignoring the scattered toy animals, Fred moved slowly into the main part of the lobby. A lump of fear rose into her throat and stayed there despite her efforts to swallow it down. After the gypsy\u2019s warning, Charles had driven like a maniac to get across town in time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Despite her hopes that the woman was wrong and that this was all some big mistake, that maybe, just maybe Angel had taken Cordy and Connor out for ice cream, Fred knew they wouldn\u2019t want her hiding behind such wishes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Squaring her thin shoulders, Fred decided that if there were clues to be found, she\u2019d be the one to find them. Almost immediately, she came across the crossbow lodged halfway under the couch where it had fallen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Bloody cloths lay in a pile on the floor next to the couch along with left over bandages, tape and a pair of scissors. It wasn\u2019t like Cordelia to leave her first aid supplies in a mess, and so the sight was more than a little disturbing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cMmuhng.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cCharles?\u201d Glancing up at the slight sound, Fred looked toward the stairs to see him slowly descending the steps from the floor above. She thought the noise had come from behind her, but with Wesley also emerging from the basement door, it made sense that one of them had caused it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNothing,\u201d Gunn told her in response. \u201cAngel\u2019s bed is so neat I couldn\u2019t even find a crease. Definitely no bliss-havin\u2019 by the looks of it\u2026not up there, anyway.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Fred easily made the leap along his line of thinking and refuted it quickly. \u201cI don\u2019t think we\u2019re dealing with Angelus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Even Wes had to agree, \u201cAngelus wouldn\u2019t be this subtle about being back. He would be eagerly waiting for us if that was the case, Gunn. That isn\u2019t what happened here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAt least you ain\u2019t doggin\u2019 my theory like it couldn\u2019t happen,\u201d Gunn commented as he set the axe down across the front counter. \u201cYou\u2019re the one who\u2019s always on about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYes, well it appears our concerns in that regard are unwarranted,\u201d Wesley admitted. He\u2019d been meaning to have a talk with Angel about those worries, but Darla\u2019s arrival, Connor\u2019s birth and the research he\u2019d been conducting on the scroll of Aberjan had been enough to distract him.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cMm\u2026oww.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Hearing something again, Fred turned in the direction of the sound, but saw nothing. \u201cDid ya\u2019ll hear a cat or something?\u201d Before they could answer, she moved across the lobby, a soft sound on her lips as she called out, \u201cKitty?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNo, no there are no kitties,\u201d Wesley wanted to point out that this was hardly the time to be concerned about that. Frustratedly, he revealed, \u201cI found nothing in the basement. No sign at all to indicate Angel used that as their escape route. Nor any sign of what the threat was to begin with.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Fred stood with her arms crossed in front of her as she examined the empty space that held no sign of anything, much less a stray cat. She was starting to theorize on residual noise left by fractal apertures in the space-time continuum when she took a step backward.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Her heel caught on something solid despite the empty space causing Fred to take a hard tumble to the floor.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYou okay, Fred?\u201d The question didn\u2019t come from either Wes or Gunn who were both already halfway across the lobby to help her up from her fall, but the male voice was too familiar to deny its owner.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Staring at the empty spot where the sound emanated, Fred gaped as she asked for confirmation, \u201cA-Angel?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWhere are Connor and Cordy?\u201d his thoughts immediately focused on them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Gunn\u2019s eyes were huge circles as he sounded out his answer, \u201cNot here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Letting out a curse, Angel told them, \u201cThose little bastards must have them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cUmm\u2026Angel,\u201d began Wesley who faltered at the thought that Cordelia and the baby had been abducted. Before he could allow that to sink in, he had to ask, \u201cAngel, are you aware of your current condition?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI feel like I\u2019ve been run over by a truck,\u201d Angel told her then realized all three of his friends were staring in his direction with flabbergasted looks on their faces. \u201cWhat the hell was that thing?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Fred let out a little panicked screech mixed with a twinge of excitement, \u201cAngel, we can hear you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After a little pause, Angel gave her an odd look. \u201cYeah, I thought I was talking, too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNo, I mean\u2026where are you?\u201d Fred reached out a hand feeling across the hardwood floor until it connected with something. A shoe, she realized.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Glancing down at the delicate hand covering the top of his shoe, Angel wondered if it was just his aching head that was making this seem strange or if Fred was having a Pylean flashback. \u201cRight here, Fred,\u201d he put his hand over hers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The sudden sensation of cool fingers sliding around her wrist caused Fred to let out a yelp of surprise. Wesley rubbed a hand across his stubbled jaw and decided that it was best to simply tell Angel extent of the problem.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe can\u2019t see you. It seems that you\u2019re\u2026 invisible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">***<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordelia sat on the floor of the van with her back against a custom-built cabinet. The baby remained in her arms, now sleeping again, peacefully unaware of the danger.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Though Jonathan sat beside her, supposedly on-guard, he seemed more interested in catching up on old times than holding a weapon on her. Being injured, Warren claimed the rights to the front seat while the third member of the trio sat in the driver\u2019s seat.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><i>Just great!<\/i> Cordelia couldn\u2019t prevent the eye-rolling response to the computers and various electronic equipment inside the van. <i>Connor, we\u2019ve been kidnapped by Nerds-R-Us in their Geekmobile. I promise, sweetie. One way or another, we\u2019ll get out of this.<\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI guess a lot has happened since graduation,\u201d Jonathan commented as he watched her fingers move in a slow pattern up and down the cloth covering the sole of one tiny baby foot.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Silence felt awkward and he\u2019d never known Cordelia not to answer his questions with the complete and utter truth\u2026no matter how painful some of those answers might have been for him. It all depended on what he was asking.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Right now she looked like she wanted to burst into tears or strangle him with her own two hands. Suddenly, it occurred to him that it might be both.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Trying again, Jonathan went for the more direct route, \u201cHow\u2019d you end up in LA with Buffy\u2019s ex? That was him, right?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cRight,\u201d she sucked in a shaky breath trying not to remember the way Angel had just vanished before their eyes. Obliterated by their idiotic ray gun.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Only the fact that Connor\u2019s safety was on the line forced Cordelia to control her anger. She wasn\u2019t certain what she would do yet, or how she\u2019d make it happen, but Cordelia wanted them to pay.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Warren swiveled his chair, \u201cBet the Slayer just loves that. You and her ex. She know about the kid?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNope,\u201d Cordelia answered truthfully. The idea obviously amused the bastard. \u201cWhy don\u2019t you call her up. Give Buffy the good news.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Buffy would no doubt call Warren ten kinds of a liar before she believed him. Then she\u2019d spend about ten minutes being very ticked off before she came after this little Geek Trio and kicked their deserving asses all over Sunnydale.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordelia knew that Buffy would come to Connor\u2019s rescue if she knew of his existence, but even these dorks weren\u2019t stupid enough to call the Slayer just to give her some shocking news.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><i>Would they?<\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cConsidering the way you two used to talk to each other. I was always hoping for a cat fight or a little mud wrestling, but then you started dating Harris and made peace or something.\u201d Warren laughed despite his pain.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordelia glared back, \u201cWe\u2019re real pals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Snorting at the sarcastic tone, Warren added, \u201cBet you\u2019d like to see the look on her face when she finds out about the little love child.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><i>Actually, yes, but from a very long distance.<\/i> Besides, \u201cThat\u2019s not the news that is going to hurt Buffy, dofus. Try the fact that you slaughtered Angel. Human or not, you three are going to be hunted down like any other demon and she won\u2019t be the only one after you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNobody knows we have you and the kid,\u201d came his smug rejoinder. \u201cAs for Buffy\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">From the driver\u2019s seat, Andrew sounded a little nervous, \u201cM-Maybe you should forget about telling the Slayer. Wait until the baby is gone and we have the funds to set up a better lair with more security.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYou seem to know a lot about Buffy,\u201d Cordelia looked straight at Jonathan to give her an explanation. They obviously knew about her status as the Chosen One, certainly that her role in Sunnydale went way beyond her informal title of Class Protector.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After the explosive events of their graduation, Cordelia figured these three had the interest and know-how to get detailed information on whomever interested them. That obviously included Buffy and Angel Investigations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cKnow thy enemy,\u201d quoted Warren. \u201cOr as the Klingons say\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNobody cares what they say,\u201d Cordelia huffed. \u201cSince when is the Slayer an enemy of yours? Geeks aren\u2019t exactly on her radar.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Warren told her, \u201cShe\u2019s the obvious choice. Every great hero needs a nemesis. Great villains need a worthy opponent to challenge them to great deeds. Well, we\u2019re Buffy\u2019s arch nemesises&#8230;ses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Then Andrew explained, \u201cWe\u2019ve been doing a little stalking and surveillance. Planning preemptive strikes to avoid a big showdown.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Arching her eyebrows, Cordelia turned toward Jonathan again. \u201cSpying, huh? So how is Buffy these days?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAlive,\u201d Jonathan reminded her, \u201cbut different, too. Y\u2019know, since she came back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cBeing dead does that to a person.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Andrew piped up again, \u201cBetter than being a zombie, which Jonathan says could have happened.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWillow brought her back, didn\u2019t she?\u201d Jonathan asked, curious about his theory on the Slayer\u2019s return.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI\u2019m a little out of the loop,\u201d Cordelia admitted. Though it wouldn\u2019t surprise her in the least to learn that Willow would do anything to keep her friend in the land of the living. \u201cI just get the newsflashes, not the detailed documentary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">That didn\u2019t seem to surprise him since she\u2019d already told them that Buffy didn\u2019t know about Connor. The lines of communication between Sunnydale and Los Angeles apparently didn\u2019t even cover the life and death situations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It was fortunate that there was nothing left behind in LA to reveal who they were or the location of their lair.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">No matter what Cordelia might hope, the Slayer would not be coming to her rescue.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Changing the subject, Jonathan told her, \u201cI\u2019m still into magick, too. Not like Willow, but I can work some major mojo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThat explains a lot,\u201d Cordelia leaned her head back against the cabinet. \u201cI once got a freaky card in the mail from Anya. She told me she was considering letting me have Xander back because he just couldn\u2019t compete with you. Something about you being the one man every woman wants. A couple of days later she left a message on our voice mail telling me to forget it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Grinning at the memory of his super-stardom, Jonathan shrugged, \u201cThat was great, but it wasn\u2019t real. There\u2019s nothing that the three of us can\u2019t do. We can do anything; make anything. Just look at our latest invention.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He pointed toward the metallic weapon on Warren\u2019s lap. Cordelia secretly hoped it would spontaneously explode taking the murdering psychopath with it. \u201cYour electro-magick thingy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Proud excitement animated Jonathan\u2019s face as he clearly forgot about the fact that the ray gun was the cause of Angel\u2019s death. Forcing herself to listen, Cordelia wanted to find out as much as she could just in case she got a chance to turn it upon its creators. Killing them wasn\u2019t necessarily on her list of things to do, but she\u2019d bet they would get the hell out of her way with it pointed at them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIt\u2019s part science and part magick,\u201d Jonathan explained proudly. \u201cThe laser effect is all science. That\u2019s Warren\u2019s department.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNice diamond,\u201d Cordelia noted the huge gemstone fitted into the top of the device.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Warren didn\u2019t mind sharing their escapade just to let Cordelia Chase know that they were men of skill and daring. \u201cWe needed a diamond large enough to focus the energy beam. The only one accessible was at the Sunnydale Museum. So we broke in and took what we wanted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Giving him a look of disgust, Cordelia said, \u201cTheft, kidnapping and murder; you guys really have moved down in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYou\u2019re not exactly on top of it,\u201d Warren jeered. \u201cGuess Daddy\u2019s pampered princess had a lifestyle change after the Feds took everything. No wonder you\u2019re shacked up with a vampire.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYou should be so lucky!\u201d Even if that last part wasn\u2019t true, it was none of Warren\u2019s business. Cordelia would have given him an earful, but her angry shout caused the baby to stir in his sleep.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jonathan decided to try to cut through the tension by continuing his story about their new invention. \u201cMy magick made it all possible. I found this really cool rock in an old junk shop. It was saturated in mystic energy and worked as a power source for our blaster.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSo Warren\u2019s the science guy and you\u2019re the magick dude,\u201d Cordelia\u2019s voice was now deliberately softer. \u201cWhat about him\u2026Tucker\u2019s brother.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI\u2019m Andrew,\u201d he reminded her. \u201cAndrew.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">An eye-roll later, Cordelia let out a short huff, \u201cPfft! Okay, sheesh! Andrew. Let me guess\u2026you\u2019re the chauffeur.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNo,\u201d Andrew protested that even if he did drive the van more than the others. \u201cI\u2019m the strategic planning department. Mission control. Stealth guy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordelia figured, \u201cSo you\u2019re supposed to be the brains of this operation?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">An immediate, \u201cNo!\u201d sounded from both Warren and Jonathan.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><i>Egos, much?<\/i> She pulled another string, \u201cSo who\u2019s in charge?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI am,\u201d all three answered in unison.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">***<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cInvisible?\u201d Angel glanced down at his hands and lower body. \u201cI can see myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cFascinating,\u201d murmured Wes just before asking the vampire what caused it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Fred jumped in with a scientific theory on harnessing light waves to create the illusion of invisibility. \u201cIt\u2019s kinda like a cloak of light covering the target object, but one refracting the light normally absorbed by it. Only in this case, the object is a moving target rather than a stationary, inanimate test subject. Basically, the actual invisibility isn\u2019t as surprising as the fact that it\u2019s happening around Angel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After listening to Fred\u2019s drawn-out explanation of scientific theory, Gunn just wanted to know, \u201cSo how do we fix it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThis is all very disconcerting,\u201d Wes commented as he walked back across the foyer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYeah, but how do we fix it?\u201d he asked the question again.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Wes told him they needed to start with finding out the details of what happened. He had no sooner made that statement than he bumped into what felt like a solid wall. A low growl of irritation sounded as Angel moved Wesley off of his foot. \u201cSorry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cForget this problem for the moment,\u201d Angel told them moving to a spot where they weren\u2019t likely to step on him. \u201cWe can think about it on the way to Sunnydale.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel quickly explained that their attackers were from Sunnydale and were known to Cordelia. \u201cThey came across internet sites offering money in exchange for Connor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWho are these punks?\u201d asked Gunn.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cJonathan, Warren and Andrew,\u201d Angel answered as he picked up his leather jacket from the counter and reached into the pocket to pull out his car keys and tossing them toward Gunn. \u201cPull the car around in the shade. Looks like I\u2019ll be riding in the trunk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYou got it.\u201d Catching the keys, which remained visible for the few seconds they were still in Angel\u2019s hands, Gunn immediately headed out to move the car.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Moving up the stairs, Angel shrugged into the jacket, anxious to get going. Then realizing instantly, \u201cI\u2019m not on fire.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAngelcakes?\u201d Lorne\u2019s jaw dropped as his head immediately turned in the vampire\u2019s direction. \u201cThere\u2019s something different about you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Still wound up, Angel snapped, \u201cI\u2019m invisible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Wes kept staring at the sunlight filtering through the frosted windows of the closed doors. \u201cThe sunlight didn\u2019t affect him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Standing close, Fred was equally interested in the phenomenon, \u201cMust be the light waves that created his current state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lorne seemed preoccupied and the invisibility factor was the least of his concerns. \u201cNo, there\u2019s something else. It\u2019s your aura. I can\u2019t see it, but I can still sense it and it\u2019s shouting at me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWell, if you\u2019re sensing anything, it\u2019s probably just me being extremely pissed off,\u201d he told Lorne. \u201cCordelia and Connor have been kidnapped.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lorne appeared taken aback. \u201cThat would explain some of it. I doubt it because if they thought I had the kind of money they were looking for, they would have tried to get it from me instead of\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cTurning you invisible?\u201d asked Fred filling the void left by Angel as his voice trailed off.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThey were trying to kill me. Why turn me invisible in the first place?\u201d Angel asked her. \u201cWhat advantage does that give them?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">They all shrugged. Fred suggested, \u201cMaybe they didn\u2019t know that was a side effect. From their perspective, you just disappeared.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Gunn suddenly appeared again, \u201cCar\u2019s ready. I\u2019m grabbing some weapons and we\u2019ll be good to go.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cGood,\u201d Angel paced in front of the door. Addressing Fred and Wes, he described the ray gun. \u201cIt was metallic and had a huge diamond built into the front. They made it themselves, I think, some super laser electro-magic thingy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Rolling her eyes Cordy-style, Fred told him, \u201cAngel, it would be more helpful if you could remember the real name.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThat was it\u2026sort of,\u201d he confessed thinking he\u2019d got it right.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWell any weapon powered by a laser could have powerful destructive capabilities if designed appropriately,\u201d she told him as they moved toward the car. \u201cMaybe they thought you were vaporized. There could be a flaw in their design.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIf magick is involved, there are many things that could have affected the outcome,\u201d Wes added as he pulled a gun from the cabinet before trailing behind the others.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThis magic mumbo-jumbo always gets to me,\u201d Gunn still couldn\u2019t shake the weird feeling left behind by the fortune teller\u2019s predictions and seeing\u2026or rather not seeing, Angel in his invisible state.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Fred felt more excited about it and it sounded in her voice, \u201cNot just magic, Charles. If Angel is right about its description, the laser gun is like a hybrid of both magic and electro-mechanical invention. I\u2019d love to get my hands on it to see how they made it work. Y\u2019know. Take it apart. Put it back together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI hope you\u2019ll get that chance, Fred,\u201d sounded the droll tones of the vampire as he closed the passenger side door.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As her thin features froze in reaction, Fred promised, \u201cOh, well only after we make you visible again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel didn\u2019t really care at this point. His first priority was getting his son and his seer back safely. \u201cGunn, give me the keys. I\u2019m driving.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe sun\u2019s still shining,\u201d Gunn commented having missed their discovery.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI\u2019m immune to its effects in this form,\u201d Angel explained. \u201cKeys, Gunn. Now. We\u2019re wasting time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Wesley knew that Angel wanted to get to Sunnydale without any further delay and probably doubted any of them would drive fast enough to satisfy his urge to get there. Cautioning against it, \u201cI think you should reconsider driving.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe hell I am. Let\u2019s go.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cBut Angel, it\u2019s nearly rush hour,\u201d Wes reminded him. \u201cGetting out of town with an invisible vampire driving our car will draw a lot of attention we don\u2019t need.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A frustrated growl sounded followed by a short pause. \u201cThen I guess I get shotgun.
