At times it felt good, healthy, reassuring him that he wasn\u2019t entirely demon, that he wasn\u2019t <i>just<\/i> a creature of the night.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But right now? It didn\u2019t feel so good.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Silence had settled between Angel and Cordelia as they sat on either side of the large cream couch in her living room, daring darting glances at each other when they thought the other wasn\u2019t looking. Cordy\u2019d abandoned her jacket, seated now in a sleeveless blue blouse and grey skirt. Her legs were curled under her, her fingers tapping restlessly against her lips.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel sagged against the back of the sofa. The memory of her lips on his sent a jolt of desire through him, unlike anything he\u2019d ever really felt before. He wanted her to kiss him again, hell, he just wanted *her*. If only they could get past their sudden discomfort\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cCordy\u2026\u201d He murmured, and her head shot up, eyes catching his like a deer in the headlights. She really did have beautiful eyes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Before he knew it, he\u2019d stretched out an arm, running the back of his fingers over her impossibly soft cheek. Her lips curled ever so slightly and he touched them with his fingers, gently, never pushing, waiting for her to come to him.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She didn\u2019t disappoint. She bit her lip, shifting slowly and sliding across the couch, snuggling into his waiting embrace. Her head rested on his shoulder, her hand sliding over his chest as he wrapped her up in his arms, pressing a kiss to her forehead.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThat\u2019s much better.\u201d He whispered, fingers trailing up and down her shoulder, his cheek on the crown of her head. \u201cIt\u2019s hard, you know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He could almost see her raised eyebrow. \u201cWhat is?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel grinned. \u201cNot that.\u201d He felt a sharp pinch in his side. \u201cHey!\u201d He lifted her chin with his finger, giving her an admonishing look. \u201cI just meant\u2026it\u2019s hard, being around you. All I want to do is &#8211; \u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He paused. Cordy frowned. \u201cIs?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel\u2019s thumb caressed her jawbone, his voice coming out husky. \u201cKiss you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The smile that broke out across her face made him feel as though he was staring at sunlight, warm, bright and breathtaking. Cordelia shifted in his arms, her chin resting close to the hollow of his throat. \u201cWhat\u2019s stopping you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel didn\u2019t answer, just covered her lips with his own, his eyes closing with a groan. His palm slid behind her neck, pulling her closer as she whimpered, fingers curling around the collar of his shirt, squeezing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel\u2019s fingers began to roam, exploring her shoulders, her throat, the space behind her ear that made her moan, shudder against him. Cordy made a tiny, approving noise in the back of her throat and his gut tightened with hunger. His tongue brushed against her lower lip, begging entry and she opened her mouth, taking him in, warming him.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Heat began to build between them, searing and fervent. Angel felt his body respond to it, and evidently, so did Cordelia because she gasped, pulling away to look at him.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAngel\u2026\u201d Her voice was breathless and it only served to arouse him further. \u201cWhat about the curse?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He was sure he looked dazed. \u201cIt won\u2019t be a problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordelia\u2019s eyes flashed. \u201cIt damn well better be a problem, jackass! If you don\u2019t think &#8211; \u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cLet me explain.\u201d Angel interrupted her quickly, laying a silencing finger over her lips and wondering how the hell she managed to intimidate him. \u201cCordy, I like you. A LOT.\u201d He stroked her cheek when her eyes softened. \u201cYou\u2019re amazing in so many ways I never thought I\u2019d know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI feel a but coming on\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cBut,\u201d Angel smiled apologetically. \u201cI *am* Satan\u2019s toady.\u201d She smirked at that. \u201cI can\u2019t forget everything I\u2019ve done in the past, I wont. And my son\u2026\u201d His voice trailed off and he felt her warm fingers slip into his, giving him strength, \u201cMy son doesn\u2019t even know I exist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cHe\u2019s alive?\u201d Cordy asked, her eyes wide.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYes.\u201d Angel stared at her. \u201cYou didn\u2019t know?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNo, I\u2026\u201d Cordy bit her lip, sitting up a little. \u201cTell me about him, Angel. Tell me about your past.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWhat?\u201d Angel felt a sudden panic. He cleared his throat, fixing her with a firm stare. \u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordy pouted. \u201cPlease?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><i>Damn<\/i>. \u201cWhy?\u201d He demanded. \u201cYou don\u2019t want to &#8211; \u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYes, I do.\u201d She cut him off, pressing a palm against his mouth. \u201cI want to know about you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He was silent for a moment, hesitant and a little irritated about what he was sure was mind-blowing sex being put on hold. \u201cI don\u2019t want to scare you.\u201d He whispered.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordelia cupped his cheek, pressing a soft kiss to his lips, her eyes shining with something he\u2019d never seen in anyone else\u2019s before, never when looking at him.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Trust.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI don\u2019t scare easy.\u201d She smiled and he felt his chest tighten. \u201cTell me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">And so he did.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">***<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cTwenty five was nice, slow but nice. Twenty six was an ass. Twenty seven\u2026\u201d Faith grimaced, counting off her fingers, \u201cUgh. Like kissing a dog. Complete with bad breath and a side helping of drool.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Xander stared at her, his jaw somewhere near his ankles. \u201cWe\u2019re up to twenty seven?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Faith grinned at him. \u201cWe\u2019re not even halfway to done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Xander shook his head, baffled. \u201cHow. What. It boggles the mind!\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThis is why they advise you never to ask women how many men they\u2019ve slept with.\u201d Faith shook her finger at him, a mock frown on her face.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Xander rolled his eyes. \u201cYou should have been on Sex &amp; The City.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI auditioned for the role.\u201d Faith quipped. \u201cBut they gave it to that damn blonde\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Xander smirked at her, popping a chip into his mouth and staring out at the dark horizon. The waves crashed erratically against the shore beneath them as they leaned over the crowded pier. Kids, teenagers and adults swarmed the area as they made the most of a late Saturday night.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cCordy lives near here, doesn\u2019t she?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cMmm hmm\u2026\u201d Faith murmured, closing her eyes as the breeze kissed her face. Xander smiled at the sight, noting how lovely she looked.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cHer house is amazing.\u201d He said, glancing behind her in its general direction. \u201cShe inherit that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Faith shrugged. \u201cShe inherited a lot. I think she bought that.\u201d She opened her eyes, smiling at him. \u201cNabbit\u2019s lending us his helicopter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Xander gaped at her. \u201cHis HELICOPTER?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThat\u2019s what I said.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cMy God\u2026\u201d Xander shook his head in amazement, resuming his staring, this time at the ocean as it deepened in colour, from dark to midnight blue. \u201cIt was fun, ya know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Faith glanced at him. \u201cWhat was?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cGoing incognito. Pretending to be someone important.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Faith\u2019s hand rested on his back, warm and comforting on his skin. \u201cYou are important, Xander.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Xander shot her a look. \u201cThat\u2019s not what I meant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Her hand slid down his arm and slipped into his. \u201cI know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Something shifted in the air, thrilling and welcoming all at once. The moment held its breath as Xander straightened, taking a step towards Faith and palming her cheek. She sighed and his eyes fluttered shut, lips curling into a soft smile as her own buried into them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Warmth spread through him, into his pores and across his skin. Xander locked an arm around Faith\u2019s waist, holding her closer. It felt nice, to have someone want him this way, to have *this*. Something inside Xander pulled deeply at the thought but Faith\u2019s arms tightened around his neck and he forgot it almost instantly, revelling in the moment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Beneath them, the waves crashed turbulently against the shore.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">***<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Buffy twirled the key card between her fingers as she stared at the screen in front of her. Wolfram &amp; Hart\u2019s logo was clearly visible in the top, right hand corner of the security site she\u2019d managed to hack into. It had been hard, even with their resources, and several cups of coffee balanced on the table beside her, one for each failed attempt.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But she\u2019d succeeded in getting in &#8211; now all she had to do was re-arrange it her way. She ran the key card through the slot-like feature of her computer, grinning when the screen flashed green and 13 letters showed up in big, bold writing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">ACCESS GRANTED<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Buffy stared at her list of objectives, taking yet another a sip of coffee. She had a lot of work to do\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">***<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordy leaned against the counter in her kitchen, putting a hand against her forehead. Her heart was racing after the evening\u2019s events. And it wasn\u2019t just because he\u2019d kissed her\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel\u2019s unburdening had been draining to say the least. All those things he\u2019d done, to all those people\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordelia swallowed, closing her eyes. She was only human and it had scared her. He\u2019d known it too, because her heart had pounded wildly and he\u2019d only pressed a kiss to her temple, his fingers drawing soothing patterns along her arm in an effort to placate.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">And she\u2019d been placated. That was what scared her most of all \u2013 that she still liked him enough, still *trusted* him enough to just stay, and listen, and understand. Angel was his demon, he\u2019d always have that darkness inside him despite the soul and that was fine. Because to accept the man, you had to accept the monster.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Actions, decisions, whether good or bad, shaped people. He was still a good man and a good father, whose moment of weakness had given him one of the most precious gifts of all, only to have it cruelly snatched away from him.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As for the rest of it, she found it didn\u2019t matter. Because despite the horror of what he\u2019d done as Angelus, when Cordelia was with him, all she felt was the good he\u2019d done, the good he was *trying* to do as Angel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She was getting used to being simultaneously creeped out and comforted all at once. She wondered what that said about her &#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cCor?\u201d Angel\u2019s voice dragged her out of her reverie and she blinked, taking slow steps out of the kitchen and into the living room. He was exactly where she\u2019d left him, curled up on the cushions of her couch, his jacket neatly folded over the back of a chair, his shoes kicked off in the corner.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordelia shot him a tired smile, handing him the mug of water. Angel plucked it out of her fingers, grabbing for them when she went to pull away. He stood, deep, dark eyes locked on hers, fingers intertwined, an arms distance between them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cCome here.\u201d He commanded lowly. Cordy\u2019s eyes narrowed but she felt a shiver rush up her spine. He\u2019d gotten awful pushy all of a sudden. Sure, he was a vampire and a predator by nature, but mostly he\u2019d just been pretty shy around her. She found she liked his assertiveness though. Angel was a nice mix of smooth and dork.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She stepped forward. He wrapped his arms around her and her own slipped up his back, clutching at the material of his shirt as he rained kisses over her nose and eyelashes. Angel grinned, a hint of fang sliding across her bottom lip. \u201cLoosen up Chase.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordelia smirked, letting her body relax in his embrace. It felt nice, the way his large hands slid down her arms, one spanning her waist, the other, tangling its fingers with hers. His jaw slid smoothly across her temple as they moved, just barely, swaying unconsciously to silent music.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYou okay?\u201d Angel murmured.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cHmm\u2026\u201d She tightened her fingers in his. \u201cIt\u2019s just a lot to take in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI\u2019m sorry.\u201d He said immediately.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI know.\u201d Cordy pressed her lips to his throat, comforted. \u201cThat\u2019s what makes it okay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">***<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSo,\u201d Kate looked up, taking the glass of wine Wesley gave her. The wine bar was large, stylish yet noisy, filled with suits, their significant others and their subdivisions who\u2019d poured in a few hours earlier after work for a wind down Saturday night. \u201cSome guy storms into the department this evening to report a stolen security card.\u201d She smirked, noting Wes\u2019s squirming. \u201cSays he thinks a stripper stole it. Problem is, said stripper is nowhere to be found. The manager\u2019s never even heard of her\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThat\u2019s terrible.\u201d Wesley glanced at her. \u201cAny luck finding her?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Kate ignored him. \u201cApparently the card is VERY important and it\u2019s imperative that we find it immediately.\u201d She raised an eyebrow at him. \u201cYou wouldn\u2019t happen to know about that now, would you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Wesley shrugged. \u201cMe? No\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNothing at all?\u201d Kate leaned forward. \u201cLike maybe where I should start looking?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNope.\u201d Wesley said, grinning at her. \u201cYou\u2019re welcome to arrest me if you&#8217;re suspicious, officer. I\u2019ve always had a penchant for handcuffs &#8211; \u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWesley!\u201d Kate punched him in the arm, laughing. \u201cYou guys are gonna get me fired some day\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI honestly don\u2019t know what you\u2019re insinuating, Kate.\u201d Wesley swirled the wine in its glass, sniffing it. \u201cThough if I did, let me just say I\u2019m sorry we weren\u2019t more stealth.\u201d He took a sip, holding the glass up against the light. \u201cNow if only they\u2019d let *me* do the job as I\u2019d initially proposed &#8211; \u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cOh please!\u201d Kate snorted. \u201cYou? In the field?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cHey!\u201d Wesley yelped, looking thoroughly miffed. \u201cI\u2019ll have you know I\u2019ve been compared to James Bond\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">***<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel\u2019s arms tightened around her and her eyes fluttered shut, cheek sliding against the soft silk of his shirt. Cordy didn\u2019t know how long they stood in the centre of her living room, simply holding each other. She was content to just stand there in his embrace but her body had other ideas. A sudden pressure built in her throat and she opened her mouth, yawning widely.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel smirked at her, circling her nose with his. \u201cTired?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNo.\u201d She lied, nuzzling beneath his chin.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cCome on\u2026\u201d He murmured, and then her feet were suddenly off the ground as he lifted her effortlessly into his arms. Cordy let out a small squeak, clasping her fingers around his neck as he carried her through the hall and up the stairs, and along the long corridor to her bedroom.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She shot him a suspicious look. \u201cHow did you -?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cVampire.\u201d Angel interrupted her with a wink. \u201cYour scent is strongest here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordelia rolled her eyes, pushing the door open as he walked through it. It delighted her \u2013 more than she cared to admit &#8211; that he could carry her around like this without breaking a sweat. Something about the gesture made her feel incredibly feminine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWow.\u201d Angel had stopped in the centre of her bedroom, his gaze travelling over every corner. Her bedroom was big, a mixture of whites and blues. Fairly lights adorned the curtains, casting a dim, dreamlike glow over the space. A four-poster bed with white drapes stood perpendicular to the door, a balcony, large dresser and walk-in closet to its left and an old antique desk and the bathroom door to its right. Jack cocked his head at them from where he was settled on a carpet near the balcony doors, resuming his sprawled position.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordelia cleared her throat and Angel glanced at her, continuing his journey towards her bed and dropping her gently down onto it. He pulled back, only to lean in and place a smacking great kiss on her lips.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNight.\u201d He said with a grin, stepping back on his heel. \u201cI\u2019ll go.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordelia frowned, disappointment striking her deep in the chest. \u201cWhy don\u2019t you stay?\u201d His eyes snapped to hers and she felt herself blush. \u201cJust\u2026sleep.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel looked uncertain. \u201cI don\u2019t think that\u2019s such a good idea.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cPfft, it\u2019s not like you\u2019re getting any.\u201d She quipped, grinning when his eyes widened and his jaw dropped. Her fingers reached for his, pulling him forward. \u201cIt\u2019ll just be nice, you know, to have you here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">His eyes softened then and when he smiled at her she wondered if maybe she was falling. He placed his hands on either side of Cordelia as he crawled over her, forcing her to fall back against the mattress. He leaned over her, keeping his eyes on her face as he lowered himself, lips hovering barely above hers as he inched forward, torturously slow.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordy pushed up eagerly to meet him, glaring when he collapsed onto his side, smirking at her. She opened her mouth, a scathing remark on her tongue but his hand circled her wrist and she was pulled against him, her body tucked into his chest as his arms cradled her and his chin rested atop her head.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cTease.\u201d She muttered, sliding an arm around his back and snuggling into him. He pulled the fluffy comforter over them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSsh\u2026\u201d Angel smoothed a tendril of hair away from her face, kissing her nose. \u201cJust sleep.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">His hands, big and comforting, alternated between caressing her face and flat, even strokes down her spine. Cordelia\u2019s eyelids drooped as sleep overwhelmed her. He smelled good &#8211; rich and masculine \u2013 and she was engulfed in the scent, wrapped tightly in his embrace, content. Her breathing evened out, her eyes fluttering as she drifted asleep.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">***<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To say the doorbell startled Buffy was an understatement. Her head jerked up from the edge of the keyboard and an empty coffee cup rolled off the table and onto the floor. Buffy growled, picking it up and placing it upright. She stood and walked over to the door, rubbing her tired eyes and glancing through the peephole.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Her heart lurched. Buffy pulled open the door, smiling tiredly at her best friend. \u201cHey.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cHey yourself.\u201d Xander stepped inside, a tub of Rocky Road ice cream \u2013 her favourite \u2013 in one hand, a DVD in the other. \u201cDon\u2019t answer your phone anymore?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Buffy placed a hand on her head. \u201cI must have fallen asleep.\u201d She looked at her watch, staring at him questioningly. \u201cWhat are you doing here Xander? It\u2019s late.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cPfft.\u201d Xander strode past her and into the kitchen, opening drawers.
