Faith had made good on her threats, killed her and now she was in heaven.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Mayor hadn\u2019t been bizarrely friendly, he killed her and now she was in heaven. She had been traded for the box, whatever was in it escaped, killed her and now she was in heaven.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She had been traded for the box, went home, took a bath, drowned and now she was in heaven. She had been traded for the box, went home, fell asleep in Angel\u2019s arms, had a sex dream about him and she was still dreaming. All of the scenarios seemed more probable than her perceived reality.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There was no way Angel just told her that he picked her over Buffy. She decided to test her last theory. She pinched her arm hard. \u201cOw!\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel was fighting the urge to panic. Her continued silence was making that difficult. It was the confusion he saw in her eyes that kept him from running away. He began to question her sanity when she pinched herself. \u201cCordy, what are..\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cOK. I\u2019m not dreaming. I\u2019m obviously dead then. I died last night. I died and you didn\u2019t tell me! What kind of friend keeps something like that a secret? Here I am mmphf.\u201d Her eyes flashed in indignation when his hand covered her mouth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYou are not dreaming. You are NOT dead and of course I would tell you if you died last night. I\u2019d also tell you if you had lost your mind.\u201d The corners of his mouth quirked up. \u201cCordelia, you\u2019ve lost your mind.\u201d He kept his hand in place. \u201cAnd you\u2019re ruining my perfect moment. Would a smile kill you? Maybe a kiss? Something that says you\u2019re happy with my choice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cMmph mofphy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWhat?\u201d He removed his hand.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI said I\u2019m sorry.\u201d She took a small step forward, closing the distance between them. \u201cI\u2019m going to take your word that I\u2019m awake and not dead.\u201d Her hands ran up his chest and wrapped around his neck. \u201cI\u2019m very happy with your choice. My moment of insanity has passed completely.\u201d She smiled.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI really should express my happiness, shouldn\u2019t I?\u201d She pulled his head down for a kiss. Her tongue traced his lower lip, begging entrance. When they parted, she swept in.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel cradled her face in both hands and took over the kiss. He echoed her moan with one of his own. His feet started shuffling forward, forcing her backwards.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The back of her legs collided with the bed. She remembered his sound words. She placed both hands on his chest and pushed. \u201cNo. You were right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cHuh?\u201d His arms already felt empty without her. \u201cRight about what?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThey deserved the truth before we\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWho, and why aren\u2019t you kissing me?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAngel, work with me. I\u2019m talking about Xander and Buffy. We need to deal with our current relationships before starting a new one. We should wait.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cHold up a second. In my plan, we were going to tell them as soon as they got here. I thought you said we couldn\u2019t do that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe can\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThen what are you saying? After I drink that potion, Buffy will want to pick up right where we left off. What am I supposed to do in the meantime? Pretend? Kiss her back?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cHell no!\u201d Her face scrunched up. \u201cOK. My plan has some flaws too.\u201d She began pacing. \u201cLook we can\u2019t just dump them then jump into bed together. This needs to be handled delicately.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI realize that. Don\u2019t think I\u2019m taking this lightly because I\u2019m not. Buffy and I were\u2026.I can\u2019t stand to see her in pain and it\u2019s so much worse when I\u2019m the cause of it. When I was in hell, the thought of Buffy was what kept me going. The reason I came to Sunnydale in the first place was to help her, to ease her suffering. Instead I always end up hurting her and I hate it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordelia sank to the floor and hugged her knees.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThese past few days with you have been amazing. I never knew I could\u2026I have never known anyone like you. I wasn\u2019t expecting your friendship or your acceptance. Before I knew it I was falling\u2026but my happiness should come second to Buffy\u2019s. I tried to feel guilty for wanting you. It didn\u2019t work. I don\u2019t regret what has happened between us.\u201d He sat down of the bed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cInstead of dealing with my obligations, I chose to ignore them. Buffy was avoiding me so there was no immediate need to deal with her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordelia began rocking herself.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI have already caused her so much pain. I should do everything in my power to make her happy but I realized something. I\u2019ve been hearing her thoughts and the truth is I don\u2019t make her happy. I know she loves me and I know she\u2019s fought to be with me but I don\u2019t make her happy. She wants normal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cShe\u2019s a slayer. She\u2019ll never have normal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cMaybe not but she looks at Willow and Oz and she..\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAnd you call a witch and werewolf normal? Of course you do. You\u2019re a vampire cursed with a soul. I think what she wants is laughter, smiles, cuddles, meaningful looks, hand holding and lightness. She wants..\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWhat I have with you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Her eyes locked with his. \u201cYeah\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI want that for her but I can\u2019t give it to her. I used to think it was because my guilt, my past, prevented me from experiencing that. What you said to the Mayor about letting a girl choose for herself, I let Buffy choose to give that up in order to be with me. I wasn\u2019t capable of it but she insisted she didn\u2019t care. She wanted to be with me. I chose to be grateful for the moments of happiness we shared. It was more than I deserved and she said they were enough for her.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Then came perfect happiness and\u2026she\u2019s willing to blame all that pain and suffering on Angelus. It wasn\u2019t really me so it doesn\u2019t matter now that I have my soul back permanently. But it\u2019s not that cut and dry, not for me.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I need to deal with what I\u2019ve done. We\u2019ve barely talked since I\u2019ve come back, not about the important things. She just wants to put it all behind us but without actually dealing with it. I wasn\u2019t exactly trying to force the issue. We just stayed in a holding pattern.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Then I got my \u2018aspect\u201d and the illusion was shattered, at least for me. Now I know I don\u2019t make her happy. I know the moments aren\u2019t enough for her anymore but what shocked me the most is I found that I am capable of having that level of intimacy. I guess you could say I had an epiphany. I don\u2019t make Buffy happy\u2026and she no longer makes me happy either.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">You have made me redefine friendship and acceptance. You have made me see what I can have if I just take it. The moment of perfect happiness I experienced no longer seems perfect to me and I don\u2019t mean because of what happened later. Despite what people think, it wasn\u2019t about the sex. I held her in my arms and for one moment I let go of the guilt. I was just a boy holding the girl he loves in his arms. I wanted to freeze that moment and never let go.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I don\u2019t know how but you\u2019ve made me feel like being who and what I am is okay. I don\u2019t have to forget to feel happy. Do you have any idea what that means to me? I realize now that staying with Buffy isn\u2019t going to give her the happiness she deserves; it will be preventing her from finding it. I don\u2019t want to hurt her but in the end, I really think it\u2019s in her best interests.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSo if you could make her happy, you would stay with her?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cHonestly, I might have. Like I said, I don\u2019t deserve to be happy. I owe her so much. I have so much hurt to make up for. Regardless of what I have found, Buffy\u2019s happiness is what I should be concerned with. Then last night happened. When I thought I might lose you, I\u2026. I\u2019ve known you, I mean really known you, for less than a week and I feel closer to you than anyone I have ever known.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Listening to everyone I was struck by another realization. You have the same right to find happiness as Buffy. I may feel mine is undeserved and unimportant in the grand scheme of things but yours isn\u2019t. I make you happy and you make me happy and I don\u2019t make Buffy happy. It all kind of fell into place in my head, staying with her out of a sense of obligation is a disservice to her\u2026and to you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSo?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI am going to end my relationship with Buffy. I truly believe it is what\u2019s best for everyone. I just hope she can forgive me someday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordelia rose to her feet. &#8220;I hate having to apologize for finding happiness.&#8221; She sat down on his lap. &#8220;They&#8217;re all going to hate us, aren&#8217;t they?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">***<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cCome on in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe come bearing junk food.\u201d Xander leaned in for a kiss but Cordelia took the bag he was carrying and stepped back.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThis way to the kitchen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI hope its okay that we\u2019re here. We figured staying here made the most sense. This way Buffy could be with Angel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She gritted her teeth. \u201cIt\u2019s fine, Willow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel stood when they walked into the kitchen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cHey. I have the potion you need.\u201d Buffy handed him a bottle. \u201cYou have to drink the whole thing. Don\u2019t ask what\u2019s in it. Trust me. You don\u2019t want to know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He quickly drank the blue liquid. \u201cI\u2019ll be sure to thank Giles and Wesley the next time I see them. I know there are more important things to work on than foul tasting potions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cDo you want some blood to get rid of the taste?\u201d Cordelia ignored the strange looks she received.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNo thanks. How long is it supposed to take to kick in?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe effects should be immediate. Giles and Wesley mixed\u2026the ingredients and I performed a small spell on it. It should work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel glanced at Buffy but she fidgeted under his gaze. He turned to stare at Cordelia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">*You were really amazing in my dream and I so look forward to the real thing.* \u201cAnything?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNo. What were you thinking about?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She blushed a bright red. \u201cIt was nothing. OK. Angel is cured. What\u2019s next on our super day of fun?\u201d Cordelia tried to sound enthusiastic but her voice fell flat.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe brought movies, food and our swimsuits.\u201d The petite blond moved closer to Angel. \u201cBut we can wait to go swimming until after sunset. A moonlight swim might be nice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cDon\u2019t let me stop you. It\u2019s a beautiful day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAre you sure you don\u2019t mind? We came here so I could be with you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordelia folded her arms. \u201cFeel free to make yourself at home in MY house.\u201d Her features softened when she looked at Angel. \u201cThe patio has a roof over part of it. You can go outside and still avoid direct sunlight. My mother likes to sit out there in the shade. She\u2019s afraid of sun damage causing wrinkles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cOK. Swimming it is.\u201d Xander clapped his hands together and rubbed. \u201cGrab your suits ladies\u2026and Oz and follow me to the pool house. We can change there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel glared at the boy. It bothered him that Xander knew his way around Cordelia\u2019s house. He waited until they left. \u201cHow often has Xander been here?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNot that often. My parents don\u2019t like him. So are you really all right about the swimming? You don\u2019t feel left out, do you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIt\u2019s okay. I\u2019d feel worse if they didn\u2019t because of me. I hate being responsible for people missing out on life. You should swim with them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI don\u2019t know if I\u2019d call that my idea of fun. Geez. Are these people moving in?\u201d Cordelia unpacked the food. \u201cThen again, Xander is here. He could finish all of this in one sitting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSo are you going to swim?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIf I didn\u2019t know better, I\u2019d say you just wanted to see me in my bikini.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">His limitations and her fun were forgotten. \u201cBikini?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYup. It\u2019s red.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYou can\u2019t wear that!\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWhy not?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cXander is out there and you said we have to wait. You can\u2019t wear a red bikini in front of him or me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYou just have to restrain yourself. I bought it last week and I look fabulous in it. Prepare yourself to be amazed.\u201d She rushed out before he could argue.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">***<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel was sitting at the table on the patio reading one of her father\u2019s books, when she returned.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWow!\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel looked up at Xander\u2019s exclamation. His eyes roved Cordelia\u2019s barely covered body. Fabulous didn\u2019t do her justice. A growl rumbled in his chest. Fortunately the others were already in the pool and didn\u2019t hear him.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cHere.\u201d Cordelia leaned forward and handed him a pair of sunglasses. \u201cI figured all this sunshine might bother your eyes. They\u2019re my dad\u2019s. Plus,\u201d she bent a little lower, \u201cthey\u2019ll hide the way you\u2019re staring.\u201d She smiled at his open mouth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cCome on Cordy. Jump in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cMaybe later Xander. I think I\u2019m going to work on my tan for a while.\u201d She adjusted her chair so it was as close to Angel as possible while still remaining in the sun.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel put on the sunglasses and opened his book but his eyes were glued to Cordelia\u2019s hands. She meticulously slathered suntan lotion on her face, arms, legs stomach and chest. He scooted his chair under the table to hide his erection.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Once most of her body was covered in lotion, she laid down on her back. She slipped her sunglasses on and relaxed. Despite the hot sun, a shiver ran down her spine. Not from a chill, it sprang from the heat of Angel\u2019s gaze. She could feel his eyes on her.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The sound of splashing served as a reminder that she shouldn\u2019t tease him. Asking him to put lotion on her back was definitely a bad idea. She lowered her shades when someone stepped into her sun. \u201cYes?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cCome swimming with us.\u201d Xander pushed her legs out of the way and sat down. \u201cPlease. I feel like I\u2019ve barely seen you lately. I miss you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Her guilt came screaming back. His goofy grin twisted the knife. He could be so sweet at times.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cPlease?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cOK.\u201d She tossed her sunglasses on her towel. \u201cBut no dunking me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWould I do that?\u201d Xander wrapped an arm around her waist and jumped into the pool.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cordelia surfaced coughing and pushing her wet hair out of her face. \u201cYou suck Xander Harris!\u201d She leaped at him. Two hands forced his head underwater then released him. She squealed when he came at her. She dodged his hands and swam towards Willow and Oz. She grabbed Willow\u2019s shoulders and used her as a shield.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cDo you really think bringing Willow into this will keep you safe?\u201d He dove at the two girls only to be blindsided by Oz. Xander came up sputtering.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNow Oz knows how to treat a lady.\u201d Cordelia leaned on Willow as they all laughed at Xander\u2019s pitiful expression. \u201cAre you going to behave?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He held up his hands. \u201cI surrender Cordy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cGood boy.\u201d She winked at Oz. \u201cThanks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNo problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIsn\u2019t he the best boyfriend?\u201d Willow swam over to her werewolf. \u201cYou\u2019re my hero.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI do what I can.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angel suppressed a primal roar. The deadly rays of sunshine stopped him from pulling Cordelia out of the pool, throwing her over his shoulder and taking her up to her bedroom. He tried to remain calm. She chose him. She was laughing and playing with Xander because she wanted to salvage their friendship.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ripping his head off would make it difficult for her to be his friend. Buffy and Willow would probably be upset about it as well.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThey make a good couple in a totally freakish way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He hadn\u2019t noticed Buffy approaching. \u201cHuh?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cCordelia and Xander, they make a good couple. I mean they don\u2019t make any sense. Let\u2019s face it. They defy all forms of logic and reason but they work. He really likes her. Actually it was one of his ideas that helped me get that demon last night. Going as army guy on Halloween made him good with the strategy making.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">*So good he got Cordelia and Willow captured.*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cHe wanted to find it almost as much as I did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI\u2019ll bet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI think he missed Cordelia. You two have been spending so much time together lately. Which is cool. Everyone needs friends. I was shocked at first but I gave it some thought last night. She really does have a way with older guys. I still can\u2019t believe Wesley smashed that pot. I know he did it more for Cordelia than for Willow. Giles is pretty attached to her too.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I still have trouble understanding that friendship. He always avoids answering my questions about it but I can deal. He never lets it interfere with our whole slayer-watcher bond and Xander doesn\u2019t seem to mind.\u201d She shrugged.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI know you may look young but you\u2019re older than all of us put together.\u201d She stared at the laughing brunette. \u201cI guess there is something mature about her, other than her\u2026appearance. It\u2019s okay you know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWhat is?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThat you\u2019re friends, it\u2019s okay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThanks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">His sarcasm was lost on her. \u201cI just want you to know you can talk to me too. I\u2019m here for you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">*Now that I can\u2019t hear what you really think.* \u201cI\u2019ll keep that in mind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cCome help me, Buff. They\u2019re ganging up on me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI\u2019ll be there in a sec.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cGo ahead. Xander needs all the help he can get.\u201d He glanced over at Cordelia. She was watching him. He detected a hint of jealousy in her eyes. It helped calm his urge to kill the boy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">***<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWhich movie should we watch first?\u201d Willow held up the three choices. She didn\u2019t wait for any responses. \u201c<br \/>\nEver After it is.\u201d She popped the tape in the VCR then returned to the chair she and Oz were sharing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cDo we have to watch the chick flick first?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSorry Xander. You were outvoted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI don\u2019t remember taking a vote, Will. You know for once the girls don\u2019t outnumber the guys. Come on Oz. Give me some support.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Willow wrapped her arms around her boyfriend and kissed his cheek.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThat\u2019s cheating. How about you, dead..Angel? You don\u2019t want to watch a chick flick, do you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He in no way wanted to support the boy who kept touching his Cordelia. She had a scathing retort on the tip of her tongue but Angel\u2019s laugh stopped her cold. Actually it was more of a snort. She turned to the vampire, wide-eyed.
