Angel took to hovering in the background with a brooding expression on his face. It seemed that old habits die hard.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">He was determined to continue their conversation and squeeze more information out of her \u2013 when he had the chance. Her effort to avoid being alone with him irritated the hell out of Angel, but the last thing he wanted was a scene. Knowing her as he did, Angel was fully aware she\u2019d close up tight like a clam\u2026and most likely make him feel a bigger heel than he already did.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The vision, as was the norm, took Cordy by surprise. Before she knew it, strong arms engulfed her tense body; her face pressed into a broad, hard chest. Angel had been in the office at the time and had caught her just before she hit the hard marble floor, which was most likely why he was kneeling with her cradled across his powerful thighs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">For a moment, Cordy relaxed into him, attempting to absorb his strength as hers had been ripped away so violently. She absently felt the soft caress of his hand over the crown of her head before sliding down to tuck her dishevelled hair behind her ear.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Then he froze.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Her eyes opened when she heard a soft gasp. Looking up, she saw Wes\u2019 pale face, as he stared\u2026not at her face but at-<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cWhat the hell?\u201d Angel growled. Her head jerked to the right, and she winced as pain speared through her skull, then her squinting eyes focused on the hand he held aloft. Blood coated the tips of his fingers. At the same time, she felt moisture dripping down the side of her face, and she groaned. <em>Dammit!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Her eyes flew to Angel\u2019s and their gazes locked for a split second before she dropped her own. Taking a deep breath, he rose to his feet, taking her with him, and walked over to one of the couches where he settled her carefully.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Wes, who\u2019d briefly disappeared, came back with a wad of tissue, which he handed over to the vampire. \u201cCordelia\u2026\u201d he finally spoke as Angel wiped his fingers before tilting her chin and pressing the tissue against the side of her face.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cDon\u2019t fuss, Wes,\u201d she shrugged, attempting a smile; all the while avoiding the stormy gaze of the vampire kneeling directly in front of her. \u201cI probably hurt myself when I fell,\u201d she stopped when a low growl echoed through the lobby.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cI caught you before you hit the floor.\u201d The dark tone sent a shiver down her spine; he only sounded like that when he was seriously pissed. \u201cHas this happened before?\u201d he added oh, so softly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cNo.\u201d Cordy refused to drop her eyes from his as she lied through her teeth. Okay\u2026 bleeding from the ear was new; it was usually her nose.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Angel sucked in a deep breath; more lies. Since when had he been able to read her so well? A few months too late. His mouth tightened into a thin line.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cYou just don\u2019t seem to be that surprised, Cordelia,\u201d Wes instead spoke, slowly lowering himself until he sat next to her. His face was almost as pale as the vampire\u2019s, who held the bloodstained tissue in clenched fingers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Feeling hemmed in, she leaned back and away from them both. \u201cIn case you forgot, I just had a bone-crunching vision, so back off, okay?\u201d she rubbed a shaky hand over her face before glaring at each in turn. \u201cYou want the details, or are we gonna be sidetracked here?\u201d Wes instantly rose to his feet, and although guilt tugged at him, was still as suspicious of the results of the vision as the vampire who still knelt in front of her.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Angel reached forward again and gripped her jaw, turning her head to check the side of her face. Annoyance flared in her eyes at the move as she attempted to pull from his hold. \u201cWatch the hands, mister grabby\u201d her words lacked her usual punch, but her gaze was strong as it warred with his.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">He tightened his hold fractionally and met her eyes glare for glare. \u201cNo more lies, no more avoidance\u2026we are gonna talk about this, and this time I want details,\u201d she shivered again at the dark tone of his voice. This wasn\u2019t the hesitance she\u2019d briefly become used to; this was coolly authoritative- and was there a touch of menace in those too-dark eyes?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cWe can\u2019t.\u201d her stark reply startled him for a second, then his jaw tensed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cDon\u2019t bet on it.\u201d Yup, the menace was definitely not a figment of her imagination. But she still shrugged with false bravado. Angel frowned at the almost smug look in her eyes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cWe can\u2019t,\u201d she repeated slowly, \u201cCos you have exactly forty minutes to save a group of teens across town. The \u2018talk\u2019\u201d she signed quote marks in the air, \u201cwill have to wait until you get back.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><em>Which will give me enough time to high tail it home and get rid of the incriminating evidence<\/em>, she thought with some relief.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Her hopes were dashed to the ground when he immediately turned to Wes. \u201cRemain here and make sure Cordelia stays put.\u201d He rose fluidly to his feet, taking a moment to pin her to the seat with narrowed eyes, before striding off towards the weapons cabinet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">As if on cue, Gunn strolled in, saw the activity, and, without a word, loped over to grab his axe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cHow\u2019s that for good timing? What are we killin\u2019?\u201d At Wes\u2019 quick reply, he turned to wink at Cordy, \u201cLater\u201d, then strode out alongside Angel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Watching them go, Cordy pursed her lips and thought a bit before turning to Wes. \u201cAny chance I can meet you all at my\u2026 so that\u2019s a no? Just great,\u201d she muttered under her breath at the instant shaking of his head.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">*0*0*0*<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Cordy stared out of the window, refusing to look at the vampire seated beside her. She could feel the vibes coming off him even more than at the hotel; the Plymouth interior intensified the controlled anger.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The awful atmosphere wasn\u2019t helped by the unusual silence of the two back-seat passengers. The vampire, either on the way there or back, had obviously filled in Gunn. His recriminating looks combined with anxiety from the moment they walked back in made her feel like crap.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Lorne had appeared shortly before the two men, telling her that he\u2019d been called for babysitting duty. Although answers were the order of the day, Angel had had the presence of mind to consider the Texan brunette ensconced upstairs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Cordy had shifted uncomfortably under the scrutiny of the green demon for what seemed an endless fifteen minutes before the other two had returned. \u201cJeeze, stare much?\u201d she\u2019d finally muttered, unable to meet his intense gaze.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cThings aren\u2019t always what they seem, honeybunch,\u201d his cryptic reply only made her more irritable. Before she could ask what he meant, Angel and Gunn had walked in, and within minutes, she&#8217;d been herded outside and into the Plymouth with Wes and Gunn following quickly behind.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Angel had hardly uttered a single word since he\u2019d left over an hour earlier. His silence rattled her more than the interrogation she\u2019d expected. If he was trying to throw her, he was doing a darned good job of it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Angel, on the other hand, had taken most of his repressed aggression out on the demons, dragging out the killing a little longer than needed. After filling in the young man accompanying him, there were no complaints. Gunn seemed to want it to last a little longer, too.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Tired but uninjured, both men had exited the building, Angel digging around for his cell as they walked towards his car. After a few words to the anagogic demon, he slid behind the wheel and began the long journey back, breaking several traffic rules along the way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">He\u2019d been able to centre himself on the journey, but as soon as he\u2019d entered the hotel and caught sight of his seer, all the rage, fear, and sense of betrayal had rushed back to the surface. The sight of her precious life-blood dripping from her ear still sent shivers of pure dread along his spine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">It had taken Angel three months to work out his feelings for Cordelia\u2026three long months with no idea that fate was seemingly against him yet again. The thought that he could have returned to find out she\u2019d died in his absence\u2026 never again. Never again would he leave her side. He just had to get her to believe that.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">But first\u2026 Angel\u2019s eyes flickered from the road ahead to the unnaturally silent woman sitting inches away. What were they going to find once at her apartment? If there <em>was<\/em> anything regarding her deteriorating health, that would be the place to start. The vampire hadn\u2019t missed the flare of panic that had darkened her eyes when he\u2019d briefly answered her demand to know where they were going. With each mile covered, the fear blossomed and ate at his soul.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">He couldn\u2019t lose her.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><b>Part 7<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Dennis picked up on the panic on his roommate\u2019s pale features as soon as the four entered the apartment. I didn\u2019t take more than a second for him to figure out what this was about, and books flew off the shelves unerringly aimed for the men.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Cordy stood to the side, speechless. All it took was a few words, but her mouth dried up. Fear of discovery was so much stronger than guilt as her visitors ducked the flying missiles. Then Angel appeared right behind her, gripping her upper arms and ducking his head in the crook of her neck, taking advantage of the respite; the phantom wouldn\u2019t risk hitting the brunette.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cOkay\u2026. You have two choices,\u201d his cool breath washed her ear, causing a shiver to wend its way along her spine. \u201cEither you tell Dennis to quit it, or I\u2019ll tear the place apart.\u201d He had to be kidding! \u201cTwo seconds.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cYou wouldn\u2019t dare,\u201d she hissed angrily. <em>Stupid Agresso-vampire!<\/em> Cordy ground her teeth and turned her head, attempting to stare him out. He merely lifted a dark brow, flexing his large hands against her flesh.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">For a moment, their eyes clashed, then the sound of a colourful curse and a yelp from the men still near the door broke the contact.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cDennis?\u201d Angel\u2019s whole body tensed with sickening dread. She finally capitulated, her voice uncharacteristically shaky.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The Cordelia chase he knew and loved rarely showed fear.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">He stepped back as soon as silence reigned over the apartment, turning her to face him. \u201cCordelia?\u201d her head dropped forward with a deep sigh, forehead pressing briefly against his hard chest before lifting and pulling back. He released her slowly, watching as she repeated the phantoms name.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The bedroom door opened after a short delay; Wes and Gunn could not tear their eyes away from the large box that appeared, hovering shoulder-high. Wes swallowed hard, the knot of dread uncurling in his gut. Recriminations hammered at his mind.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Cordelia\u2019s assurances and explanations several weeks ago now taunted him. After all this time and he\u2019d learned nothing about the stubborn young woman. He flicked a glance towards his friend, who leaned against the door, arms folded, the expression on his dark face reminding him so clearly of their first meetings. Closed off and difficult to read.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Both wanted to be anywhere but here right now.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Angel caught the box shoved his way without breaking eye contact with Cordy, and then his eyes dropped to the large plastic container; he strode towards the dining room table, with the others following quickly behind. Cordy stalled, wringing her hands and eying the apartment door longingly; face it or flee?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cDon\u2019t even think about it.\u201d <em>God, did he have eyes in the back of his head<\/em>? She almost giggled hysterically\u2026 realizing that emotion was scarily close to the surface. Why the hell did she have to keep everything? Her shoulders slumped. Was it her subconscious mutely hoping they\u2019d find the box and \u2026 then what?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cCordelia\u2026 would you mind joining us?\u201d Wes\u2019 normally clipped tones were overshadowed with a healthy dose of doom. Taking a deep breath\u2026 didn\u2019t help. But she walked slowly over, her eyes locked on the vampire\u2019s rigid back.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">As she drew level with Wes, she saw he held one of the transparent scans in his large hand.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cWhat do all these colours mean?\u201d Gunn grabbed a scan himself and scrutinized it before looking towards the ex-Watcher, who was now peering over Angel\u2019s shoulder to get a better look.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cWell, the red colours are hot spots of the brain\u2026 blue is cold\u2026. Green; green is\u2026 there\u2019s an awful lot of green\u2026\u201d he paused and swallowed. Angel turned his head and looked towards his strangely silent seer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cTell us, Cordelia; I\u2019m sure your doctor has explained what these mean?\u201d She looked from his face to the scan he held aloft, and then her eyes dropped to the table.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cIt\u2019s really not as bad as it looks,\u201d She hedged. It took everything in her to raise her eyes to stare confidently back. Their eyes locked, only broken by Wes\u2019 gasp of shock.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cGood lord\u2026 Cordelia,\u201d he raised his eyes from the scan he\u2019d taken from the bottom of the pile and looked at her with hurt betrayal. \u201cThis scan is dated months ago.\u201d Angel almost snatched it from him and checked it out before swallowing heavily.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The first scan was dated shortly after he\u2019d fired them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">*0*0*0*<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Too many questions later, and not enough answers given, Wes finally gave his excuses in a stuttering mumble. Unexpectedly reaching out to pull Cordy into an awkward hug.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cWe\u2019ll find a way, Cordelia,\u201d he whispered into her hair before releasing her and clearing his throat. She nodded, blinking back the rush of tears. Gunn hovered behind, his face a gamut of emotions. As soon as Wes moved away, he stepped forward.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cJust so you know, girl, we ain\u2019t fine right now,\u201d he warned her gruffly and then enveloped her in crushing arms. \u201cBut I\u2019m not goin\u2019 anywhere either, you hear?\u201d she squeezed his waist in reply, and then they were gone.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">She could feel the vampire behind her, and put off facing him until she\u2019d wiped away all trace of tears and her features set into some semblance of calm. Then she turned around and folded her arms, unconsciously mimicking his stance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cWere you ever going to tell us?\u201d the quiet question dripped with pained accusation, and her head dipped for a moment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cThere was nothing really to tell,\u201d his indrawn breath echoed through the lounge, making her cringe in shame.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cSo it\u2019s normal for you to bleed from your ears?\u201d He finally asked after a pregnant pause, his voice rough as sandpaper.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Cordy rolled her eyes and waved a deliberately careless hand, \u201cIt doesn\u2019t last that long, as you saw; not like I lost a lot.\u201d His dark brows dropped, almost meeting over the bridge of his nose at her almost casual reply.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">At the same instant, she realized she\u2019d let the cat out of the bag, that it wasn\u2019t the first time. Angel\u2019s pale face was thunderous as he whispered, \u201cIt\u2019s happened before\u2026\u201d not a question but a flat statement of fact.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Cordy instantly shook her head. \u201cThe other times, it was just the odd nosebleed, one of which you saw, if you remember.\u201d He flinched. \u201cThe \u2018ear\u2019 thing was a one-off\u201d With every casual word that left her mouth, she felt his growing sense of betrayal. Suddenly, all her previous reasoning as to why this was kept quiet made no sense whatsoever. I can\u2019t believe you kept this from us- from <em>me<\/em>,\u201d his voice rough with held back emotion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cDon\u2019t you <em>dare<\/em> go there, Angel &#8211; just don\u2019t okay?\u201d The vampire\u2019s mouth tightened into a thin line, belatedly realizing he\u2019d left himself wide open to more recriminations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Cordy remained surprisingly silent and turned her back on him. He cautiously approached and, with careful fingers, took hold of her arm. \u201cYou\u2019re coming back to the hotel\u201d She attempted to pull away, but this time he held firm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cI\u2019d prefer to stay here. Judging by the high colour and darting eyes, it was more than just wanting her space.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cWell, we\u2019re not exactly buddies right now,\u201d she reminded him sharply, then cringed as he flinched at the reminder. \u201cNot that it really matters,\u201d she contradicted herself as anxiety grew, then halted and turned abruptly to face him. \u201cI need my space! Peace and quiet! How can I relax with you hulking around 24\/7?\u201d waving her arms around as she rapidly spoke. \u201cAnd like I said, we\u2019re not in a good place right now.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Angel\u2019s mouth tightened into a thin line. Twice now, she\u2019d brought up their \u2018estrangement,\u2019 something he didn\u2019t need to be reminded of. But not even her personal grievances would get in the way of her life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cSo you\u2026 you need to go back to-to <em>your<\/em> space and leave me with <em>mine<\/em>.\u201d Cordy stammered, and then her mouth snapped shut as she realized she was rambling like Fred, while her internal monologue was raging.<em> How the hell am I supposed to act all cool and uncaring with him in my face all the time?<\/em>\u00a0 It was definitely a bad idea. <em>Bad with a capital BAD<\/em>. \u201cYou can\u2019t stay.\u201d Her voice rang with finality.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Angel dipped his head for a moment, contemplating the floor, and then heaved a deep sigh before looking up. \u201cTough.\u201d Her eyes widened comically at his reply and then narrowed as he continued. \u201cAs I said, I have to go out for a short while \u2013 but I\u2019ll be back,\u201d he curtly added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Her mouth opened to argue, but he cut in. \u201cI\u2019m done discussing this with you, Cordelia.
